February's performance leader, the Pentium 4 2.2GHz, found itself replaced with the new Pentium 4 2.53GHz chip which comes in at a wallet wrenching $665. Prices on the earlier Pentium 4 chips and older Pentium III and Celeron chips fell appropriately in the past weeks, putting the entry level Pentium 4 chip at less than $100 and the highest end Celeron at $20 cheaper. Fast Pentium III chips, including the 1.2GHz model, fell in price about $40 since February but still remains expensive.
