Anyone know when is ravenridge coming? I want to buy a 2 in 1 ultrabook but waiting for amd to launch raven ridge apu so that there will be good graphics so that gpu accelerated stuff wont suck.

Raven Ridge is coming around the end of this year I believe.

The rumor sites have shown supposed leaked AMD slides. They imply that it will be early 2018. Rumblings that they will carry Ryzen 2xxx names timed with the tweaked desktop Ryzens coming next year, though Raven Ridge would still have first edition circuitry.

I saw slides that stated Laptop Raven Ridge Q4 2017 with Desktop Raven Ridge Q1 2018, although that certainly could have changed.

Great amd has the best apu and soc

Have you seen the slides with the painter codenames (Matisse, Picasso)? As far ad I know, leaked in the last week. 2018 for all Raven Ridge.Per wccftech and videocardz.

    Q4 2017 for consumers, Q1 2018 commercial customers:

    Nice!

It is highly likely that RR ws strategically delayed to make use of 12nm process and a new core stepping. It was moved from Q4 2017 to Q1 2018, which is also when 12nm ryzen should be launching.
  • MajGenRelativity - Tuesday, October 3, 2017 - link

I saw slides that mentioned that 12nm Raven Ridge is a different product, named Picasso. It's plausible they got rolled into one, but that would be a great deal of engineering effort.
  • msroadkill612 - Tuesday, October 3, 2017 - link

Why didnt I think of that? Yep, if RR isnt in full production yet, why start on the old stepping?
  • MajGenRelativity - Tuesday, October 3, 2017 - link

Because re-designing a chip for a new node is not an instantaneous or free process. Raven Ridge may have been too far along when 12nm was announced, or AMD didn't want to delay it further

I think you'll see them at CES should the recent released slide is true.

End of the year is just weird time because they can't showcase or get worldwide media coverage on that time and Intel new models should already be out by that time. So they might as well delay it a bit, save PR money, and just have a blast at CES with other bling bling smartphones.

Well, we'll find out soon enough :)

I'm not the intended customer for this, but if AMD can snag some marketshare to boost their profits, I'm happy. That'll help them invest more in R&D for even better products and competition in the future.
  • Krayzieka - Tuesday, October 3, 2017 - link

Amd r and d is low and able to get competitive product out of the market this mean future will be bright without having to spend billion of dollars like intel

~too late, already bought up by miners~
  • MajGenRelativity - Tuesday, October 3, 2017 - link

Miners wouldn't buy these cards. In fact, I'm not even sure if they are offered at retail.
  • BrokenCrayons - Tuesday, October 3, 2017 - link

Embedded products are probably less appealing to miners. The PCIe variants might find their way into a mining rig, but MCM and MXM parts won't be usable on commodity motherboards so they'll probably be used for their intended purpose.
  • MajGenRelativity - Tuesday, October 3, 2017 - link

It'll be hard to use even the PCIe variants, as I don't think they are sold at retail. I think you need a contract or whatever. We'll see
  • BrokenCrayons - Tuesday, October 3, 2017 - link

Logic Supply has sold embedded GPUs (here's a discontinued E6460 - https://www.logicsupply.com/er91fl/ ), but I can't see them being cost-effective when you can probably get cheaper and more powerful consumer cards from a variety of sources.

Cant wait for amd raven apu. It will be awesome
